Last Flood Update--For Now
Well, this is my last post for our recent Fargo flood. Even though the city is "still cautious" I've decided I need to move on.
I did laundry yesterday--HOORAY!!! I never thought I would say that.
I've been to Target and Walmart again, after almost a 2 week hiatus, and it was wonderful. It's funny the little things you miss.
It's interesting hearing all of the "after flood" news. I didn't realize that the governor AND the federal government strongly suggested/pressured that the mayor evacuate the entire city right before the crest. He kept telling them "we know what we're doing, and we can't evacuate now because we need these people to watch their dikes." I'm glad the mayor was right. I'm glad he didn't evacuate the city.
I saw some more friends out and about. They're still not ready to call this a win. They're also the ones checking their sump pumps round the clock to make sure their dikes hold up. That's the strange thing about this whole experience. I feel like I need a "we won!" or "we lost." We're just coasting for now, and the national news has dropped us, and I just don't know what to think. There's minimal damage in my neighbourhood, and for the most part of Fargo, so it just doesn't look like it was "that big of a deal." (Even though I know it was). I feel like I need some conflict resolution, closure, a denouement in our little flood story.
One thing for sure, I can't believe it was only a week ago when we thought the river was going to crest at 43 ft. That was scary. I was talking to my friends and they were scared too. We're so lucky it only got to 40.8 ft.
School is starting Monday again, and hopefully things will get to normal soon. Some cautionary news though--today, the National Weather Service says there is a 75 percent chance the Red River could crest at 41 feet between April 15-22, surpassing the record crest of 40.82 feet set last Saturday.
If that happens, I'll continue to blog about what's happening with us. It just seems easier to get that information out through the blog than phoning everyone.
But for now, I'm getting caught up on laundry, errands, and taking it one week at a time.

I think you have "a win". It is amazing what you and your community have done. I know that you guys have been blessed. With that being said, how long do you plan on being in Fargo?
I think it's great that you guys are doing well. We can definitely see how God has blessed you and why wouldn't He, you truly are people to admire :) I really do appreciate you updating the blog with all that has taken place up to now. We send our love and prayers and hope that the river doesn't crest high enough to do damage.
I have been out of the blogging scene for too long! Sorry to have not been keeping up with all your news. You're in my prayers. I love how you and Steve volunteered so much to help your city. Hope you can get settled back into a routine very soon! I can't imagine having school and everything shut down for that long. Best wishes to you guys.
