Oy!

Wow spring break for us was insane. It feels like so much has happened the past six days that it needs more than one post. First Steve and I drove up to Fargo to house hunt and district shop. I really felt as I was talking to the principals of each school that I was conducting a "future employee" interview. We were impressed with most of the schools--which is good and bad. Good, because Joshua and Whitney will have good education opportunities but bad because it hasn't narrowed down geographic locations for a new house. We met with church members up there who were very helpful and the community in general seems very open-minded and progressive. We're excited and ready for the move. By the time we finished the trip I was glad to see these happy silly faces again!

The Power of the Spoken Word

I saw this quiz on my friend Andrea's blog. Since my degree is in English and my senior course had me contemplating that maybe I should have been a linguistics major, I thought this would be fun. I laughed at the results. I am Canadian, I'm moving to Fargo, and possibly the Minnesota side. Go figure eh?

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: North Central

"North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.

Boston

The West

The Midland

My Beef with Ben...

Ben Franklin, the father of Daylight Savings. Thanks to him my children think it's not bedtime because the sun is "still turned on." They think they don't need to take a bath because it's still sunny and they want to play in the back yard. Thanks to him, my kids have a hard time getting up in the morning to get ready for school on time, and I have a hard time getting up at 5:30am to go running because my body still thinks it's 4:30am. Curse that man...he thought he was so smart with his new ideas (granted electricity, public libraries and eyeglasses are things I couldn't go without) but messing with one's sleep schedule!!! Not cool. I heard on NPR the other day that daylight savings doesn't really save us energy so my question is...Why??? Obviously with Ben frolicking around in France flirting with women didn't give him the same experience as his poor wife back home taking care of their kids and putting him to bed earlier than normal...Grr..hopefully the Beck family can adjust to their new sleep schedule before we have to change the clocks again in the fall.
